Verbier - Top level skiing in 2015, a unique experience

Verbier, top level skiing in a traditionally Swiss alpine environment, it offers a unique Valaisan-British feel that you can hardly experience anywhere else in the world!

Did you know?

It was in the mid 1920s that the first group of snow lovers hiked 15km up the Sembracher only to ski back down again. Verbier’s only inhabitants at the time were a few herds of cows and their keepers. After the war, in 1946, the Government of Switzerland concluded that Verbier, due to its ideal location, was a perfect ski resort worth being developed and consequently its first infrastructure was constructed. Nevertheless, it was only in the 1960s that the ski boom allowed Verbier to become one of “the best” known Swiss ski resorts.
Offering more than 100 ski lifts and more than 400km of ski slopes, Verbier is not only known to be a free-ride paradise, but it also offers slopes for all kinds of skiers. Visit Verbier today and allow yourself to be charmed by its picturesque scenery that has been preserved as a unique and charming alpine environment over the years.

What to do?

You will be able to pick from a vast choice of possibilities of how to spend your holiday skiing in the 4 Valleys. This immense area offers an ideal environment for all types of skiing, not only the renowned and unique off-piste but also cross-country, heliskiing, freeriding and cross-country skiing, to name just a few.

The excellent network of restaurants, not only in the village but also on the slopes will make it a challenge to choose where to go! The nightlife and bar scene starts with the Well known « après-ski », following on to dinner with a variety of good quality restaurants, and then afterwards continues with a choice of many bars and clubs in the village.

To contrast with this, the history of Verbier is palpable in the village. Verbier has some interesting museums and galleries that one should visit: The “Musée de Vieux Pays”, the Grinding Mill and the Alpine Museum are all well worth a visit.

Accommodation

The classic Chalet d’Adrian or the contemporary Nevaï are the two well known hotels in the resort, but Verbier is reputed for its many offers of alpine chalets for rent, for which the waiting lists start well before the previous season ends. You can contact the Tourism Office, www.myverbier.ch or www.verbier.ch to obtain details on all the possibilities concerning accommodation in hotels, apartments, or chalets.
