Megève 2015

Megève 2015

Megève, the resort chosen by aristocrats, will enchant you with its mystical touch and sophistication. Magical and historical, you will fall in love with Megève at first sight

Did you know?

Megève’s reputation as a fashionable resort started when the Rothschild family discovered it in the early 1900s as an alternative to their then favourite Swiss resort of St. Moritz. Back in 1921, it was the Baroness Noémie de Rothschild who built one of its landmark hotels that gave the resort its reputation. The creation of the “Club de Sports” in 1923 contributed to the development of many skiing champions at the time.

By the fifties, Megève no longer needed to prove anything to anyone: it was THE place chosen by the rich and famous and the celebrities of the time. It is still the place of choice for many well-known and wealthy families from all over the world.

Megève is divided into three areas: Rochebrune Côte 2000, Jaillet and Mont d’Arbois. There is also access to the areas of Combloux, Saint Nicholas de Veroce and Saint Gervais, where you can ski in the Mont-Blanc Evasion ski area.

What to do in Megève?

Start your holiday with an obligatory walk (or horse-drawn carriage ride if you prefer) through the small streets of downtown Megève where you will find trendy restaurants and bars as well as many designer shops and boutiques.

A must see is a visit to the Aallard Department Store in the Place de l’Eglise (Church Square) that opened its doors in 1926 as a family workshop, and where in 1930 the famous “fuseau” was created (revolutionary aerodynamically designed ski trousers).

Choose your ski area according to your ability and desires from over 300km of skiing slopes and 80 ski lifts within the three areas of Megève. You will also be able to find wonderful alpine refuges and restaurants all over the skiable domain.

However, one does not only visit Megève to ski. Bon vivants and culinary amateurs will be able to enjoy extraordinary experiences by choosing to eat at some of the well-reputed restaurants in the resort.

Take a look at the official Megève websites www.megeve.com and www.megeve.fr where you will be able to find, amongst other important tips, the agenda and snow conditions.  A detailed list of activities available in the resort can also be found at http://www.powderbeds.com/france/megeve/off-the-slopes providing direct links and contact telephone numbers for each activity available.

Accommodation

The main decision to be made when choosing where to stay in Megève is whether you would like to remain in and around the town centre or whether you are ready to walk or take the ski bus to access the slopes or go downtown. Contacting the Tourism Office on +33 (04) 50 21 27 28 will help you to make this choice.
